At the same time, traders have called for a day-strike to protest against the alleged harassment of officials that led to the suicide of their fellow trader in Ambalappuzha. The Union of Traders said that shops would remain closed until 6 pm today. The Kerala Merchant Chamber of Commerce and The Kerala Distributors Association have also agreed to join the strike.

The Hotels and Restaurant Association will also close its establishments in Alappuzha, while the ones in other districts will hoist a black flag.

The Bakers’ association has also joined the strike. Bakeries across Kerala will remain closed until 4 pm.
