If SRK trends, can Salman Khan be far behind?

On a day when US president Barack Obama sent legions of Shah Rukh Khan fans into delirium by quoting his lines from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, another head of state – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi – raised a toast to superstar Salman Khan for his efforts in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

After Modi’s Tweet, the actor wrote on his Facebook page: “The Honorable Prime Minister nominated me for the Swachh Bharat campaign and I have cleaned and painted three villages in Maharashtra so far. I intend to continue with this initiative, but Swachh Bharat is not about what one of us can do. It’s about what each of us can do.

“So today, on Republic Day, I am taking this campaign social. I will nominate 100 followers a month for Swachh Bharat. Please start a sustainable Swachh Bharat initiative in and around your area of work or residence or both. Upload your before and after pictures or videos. Five of the best initiatives will get special mention on my Facebook page and also win a prize each.”

And the so-called ‘Salmaniacs’ went wild, with the tag #SwachhBharatWithSalman quickly climbing the trending charts on Twitter, with more than 5,000 tweets in less than four hours.

Meanwhile, lest we forget, there’s another Khan, too.
