The Supreme Court while hearing a plea on Wednesday raised objection against the trend of causing damage to public properties during agitations and strikes.

A court bench headed by Justice J S Khehar said that the political parties and associations organizing strikes or agitations will be held accountable for the loss incurred.

“In the name of protest one cannot damage to the public properties,” said the Supreme Court bench comprised of Justices J S Khehar and C Nagappan

“We must take a call on the issue and we need to frame guidelines for taking action against people indulging in such acts,” added.

It was also pointed out that the people of the nation should be aware of the consequences and no one should be allowed to take the nation for granted during agitations or strikes.

“Whether it is BJP or Congress or any other organization, they must realize that they can be held accountable for the damage to the public property.” the court observed.

Court made the observations while hearing a plea of Gujarat Pattidar leader Hardik Patel who sought to drop the FIR against him.
