Neither Neyyappam nor Nutella, says Google

Google has announced that their latest dessert themed version of Android will go by Android Nougat. The name was announced after Google considered votes and suggestions from users online.

Google is expected to roll out Android N via OTA (Over the Air) updates by late October although the second stable beta version of the Android is already available for Nexus users.

Nougat brings a wide variety of new features like split-screen multitasking and Daydream, Google’s latest VR platform.  While updates for Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Nexus Player are confirmed, Google revealed that their most popular product, Nexus 5, will not receive any  further upgrades.

Indians, however, were in for a huge disappointment when Google revealed Android Nougat. Sundar Pichai, while in India, had joked that the country’s 1.3 billion people could choose the name of an Indian sweet, which encouraged a huge population to root for Android Neyyappam and Android Nankhatai.  Users were also hoping that Google would go for Android Nutella.

Fans are hoping that the next version of Android, which should start with an ‘O’, will be titled Android Oreo.
