Neymar in tax trouble : Brazilian court sets the ball rolling

Barcelona football star Neymar seems to have run into tax trouble,  following which Brazilian courts have issued orders to freeze his personal and family assets worth over $50 million.

It does not seem to be as serious an issue as it sounds though, with all that is required of the star being paying up tax arrears – even though they seem to be to the tune of millions of dollars. The Brazilian laws don’t seem too taxing in that respect.

The whole financial muddle seems to be tied in to the star’s transfer to Barca, and the payments made therin. There seem to be mismatches between what the club seems to have paid for the player and the money exchange that actually took place. For now, it looks like the football star won’t be able to get a respite until the figures add up and due taxes are paid.
Neymar and his family (and their businesses) were found guilty of tax evasion last year. The star and his father were questioned earlier this month. As of now, nobody has admitted to being guilty. Wonder where the ball will roll to next.
