Bollywood has always sworn by regular, run-of-the-mill on-screen couples like Shahrukh-Kajol, Ranveer-Deepika, Alia-Varun et al. However, directors sometimes decide to veer away from these tried-and-tested jodis and bring together a fresh, unexpected pair to work their magic in the films. The coming year in Bollywood is going to be packed with such “offbeat” jodis. Here are 5 such never-been-paired-before, unlikely couples, who will be seen opposite each other on screen.

Ranbir Kapoor – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Now here is one on-screen couple we are eagerly waiting to watch on the big screen. In Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Ranbir has been romantically paired opposite Aishwarya, and we are certainly intrigued to see how this love story ends. The teaser of the movie was released recently and the two share intense chemistry with each other.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui – Amy Jackson: One can’t imagine Nawazuddin as a romantic hero. In Sohail Khan’s Freaky Ali, Nawaz plays a budding golfer, but he also has a romantic angle to his character, and his love interest is being played by the beautiful actress Amy Jackson. The two show good chemistry in the trailer and songs released by filmmakers, but we will have to wait and watch how good they look together on the big screen.

Farhan Akhtar – Kriti Sanon: Farhan leads the pack when it comes to being one part of an offbeat pair. Farhan will be seen with Shraddha Kapoor in Rock On 2, and with Kriti Sanon in Lucknow Central. Farhan will play a prisoner in Lucknow Central, while Kriti will play an NGO worker. The movie also stars Angad Bedi and Deepak Dobriyal, but we are not sure if there will be a romantic angle between Farhan and Kriti.

Arjun Rampal – Vidya Balan: The sequel to Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani is in the post-production stage. Vidya Balan is the only actor from the first movie who is going to be a part of the sequel as well and Arjun Rampal has been cast opposite Vidya for the first time. Whether they have a romantic angle or not in this edge-of-the-seat thriller is something only time will tell, but Arjun and Vidya in Kahaani 2 are certainly an offbeat couple to look out for.

Sonakshi Sinha – Purab Kohli: Purab Kohli is best remembered for his endearing characters in the movies Airlift and Rock On. He will now be seen as the love interest of Sonakshi in Sunhil Sippy’s Noor. While Sonakshi plays a journalist in the movie, Purab will be seen as a photojournalist.
