Booking a cab can sometimes be a pain, especially when the network on you phone is down. However, it looks like Ola has a solution for this now. The cab aggregator ‘Ola Offline’ across key metros in India on its mobile app service. With this new facility, customers will now be able to book cabs without having the need for a internet connection on their smartphones.

The feature will be available across all cab categories viz. Micro, Mini, Prime and Lux.

Ola has been testing out the feature in smaller towns and cities since June this year. Recognizing the lack of good data and connectivity infrastructure, the company has launched the service in with four metro cities and will soon be launching other cities as well.

“As the country ushers in the digital revolution with projects such as Digital India and Smart Cities, the way users experience technology is changing. While connectivity continues to be an infrastructural challenge, we are constantly building innovative technology that helps fill the gap, and the launch of the ‘Offline feature’ is a major step in that direction. We understand that while an Ola might be available around you, a working Internet connection might not always be. Ola Offline will now plug this gap,”said Ankit Bhati, CTO & Co-Founder, Ola.

Now  the app will detect that you are offline and will prompt you to send your location via SMS to Ola, which will then send you driver details over SMS – you can then contact the driver via a phone call.
