App based taxi service – Ola – presented a bill of Rs 9 lakh to one of its customers who went on round trip from Hyderabad to Nizamabad in August last week.

Mr Rathish Sekhar, a private consultant working on government projects, was issued a bill of Rs 9,15,887 by his Ola cab driver.

Mr. Shekhar started from Jubilee Hills to Nizamabad and he returned in the same cab.

“When I booked the cab the estimate shown on my phone was about Rs 5,000. When I actually returned, the bill showed Rs 9.15 lakh,” Mr Sekhar was quoted by Deccan Chronicle.

When the trip was ended by the cab driver, the app showed a distance of 85,427 km instead of the actual 450 km round trip.

“There were no dots  between the numericals. For example, some times the bill amount is displayed as ‘9158.87’ which would mean Rs 9,158. But even Rs 9,000 would be almost double the estimate,” he added.

Even cab driver was shocked at the bill generated by Ola and remarked that he could he could buy two Indica cars with the amount generated.

However, when Mr Sekhar contacted Ola customer support, the bill was recalculated to Rs 4,812. It took another three days for Ola to generated an invoice for the trip which Shekhar later to submitted  to his office.

According to Ola support customer support, the flawed bill was generated due to a computer error.
