Oscars 2016: What We Loved The Most

The 88th Academy Awards has wrapped up and despite the controversy about the ‘All White Nominations’ surrounding the prestigious awards this year, it was a dazzling affair to remember.

Here are some of the best moments from the Oscars 2016.

1. Host Chris Rock opened the show by referring to the Academy Awards as the White People’s Choice Awards! The #OscarsSoWhite was the topic of a series of jokes this year that had everyone in splits  at the Academy Awards.

2. The Black History Month Minute: As part of the #OscarsSoWhite jokes, actress Angela Bassett came in for a special segment, giving her tribute to a black actor which everyone assumed to be Will Smith. At the end of the segment, it turned out she was actually paying homage to Jack Black! Director Alejandro Inarritu, who won the award for The Revenant, also made a reference to racism in his winning speech.

3. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his first Academy Award for the Best Actor for his role in the film The Revenant and he ended his speech about the consequences of global warming with – Let us not take our planet for granted, I do not take this night for granted!

4. Actress Priyanka Chopra made her debut at the Oscars as she presented the Best Film Editing award alongwith Liev Schreiber. Wearing a strapless gown by designer Zuhair Murad, she greeted her fans in India by saying Namaste India from the red carpet.

5. Mad Max: Fury Road turned out to be the biggest winner this year with six awards in its kitty, including best costume design, production design, makeup and hairstyling, editing, sound editing and sound mixing.

6. Indian born British actor Saeed Jaffrey, who passed away in November last year, was honored at the Oscars 2016 in the In Memorium montage. He is best remembered for his roles in movies like Gandhi and The Wilby Conspiracy among others.

7. The best appearance on the Oscars stage this year turned out to be that of Star Wars droids C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8! While celebrities went on a selfie spree with the droids backstage, 9-year old Room star Jacob Tremblay was also thrilled to see them on stage, as he jumped off his seat to get a better view!
