Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s thoughtful intervention averted a potentially dangerous situation in which a member of a television crew could have possibly drowned in Jamnanagar on Tuesday.

While covering a public function PM gestured the crew of Doordarshan to move away from the spot where they were covering the inauguration ceremony of the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (Sauni) project, as water from the dam came gushing in following the inauguration.

Before delivering the inaugural address speech, Modi went to the dam near the village in Jamnagar district to officially inaugurate the functioning of the Sauni project.

Just after the inauguration by opening the dam shutters, water from the dam started gushing down in magnificent quantities and PM noted the presence of Doordarshan’s camera crew in the dam’s bed. He immediately waved his hands signalling them to move out of the place.

“Our PM quickly realized that the television crew might get into trouble due to the rising water level. He quickly alerted them by clapping and shouting. He also asked the security personnel to inform the crew to move to a safer place, as water level in the dam bed was rising very quickly,” Gujarat’s deputy CM Nitin Patel was quoted by PTI.

Meanwhile the incident was caught on video and PM can be seen asking Gujurat CM Vijay Rupani and his security personnel to do something.

“I was saved in the nick of time, want to thank PM Modi, this is like a new life for me,” said Doordarshan’s cameraman.

“Luckily, these cameramen understood what Modiji was trying to tell them and they moved to a higher platform just seconds before the lower platform, from where they were shooting, was submerged in water. Some of the crew left their camera behind and ran to save their lives,” Patel added.
