Congress is like death, never gets the blame for anything, Modi taunts Congress in RS

Here are the highlights from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Rajya Sabha during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Presidential address in the upper house.

  1. Mrutyu ko kabhi dosh nahi lagta. Kabhi kabhi lagta hai Congress ko aisa vardaan hai. Vardaan yeh ki agar hum Congress ki alochana karein, vipaksh pe hamla, vipaksh pe aarop. Yeh kabhi nahi aata ki Congress par aarop. Congress ek aisa hai – jisko badnaami nahi milti.

(Death is never blamed, sometimes it’s as if Congress also has such a boon. Congress is always called the opposition, never get into infamy)

(When we criticise Congress, it is portrayed as an attack on the opposition, he added)

  1. I am not Manmohan Singh but I also know a few things. We should aim to double the income of farmers by 2022.
  2. Decentralisation is the key. Accountability and transparency are imperatives.
  3. Our government has focussed extensively on transparency.
  4. Policy-driven government is what works, not based on individual’s wishes.
  5. Congress analysed my words with a microscope. Leave alone microscope, if they had worked wearing binoculars, they would have done some good to the nation.

(“Microscope se nahi, binocular dekh ke kaam kiya hota toh bahut acha kaam hota“)

  1. PM quoted Indira Gandhi:

“Duniya mein do tarah ke log hain, ek karya karne wale aur doosre jo uska shrey (credit) lete hain. Aap in mein se pehli tarah ka vyakti banne ka prayas karein kyunki iss mein competition bahaut kam hai, ye baat Indira ji ne kahi thi (There are two types of people in the world. One who works and the others who take the credit for the work done. Try to be the kind who works because there’s no competition there. This is what Indira ji had said).”
