Review Central: Badlapur, a gritty revenge tale that loses pace along the way

Badlapur is about one crime that alters the lives of two men and sends one of them on a revenge spree. It has been billed as Varun Dhawan, who leaves his chocolate boy image behind, but it’s Nawazuddin Siddiqui who walks away with the acting laurels. Director Sriram Raghavan, too, has come a long way since Agent Vinod.

Here’s what the critics are saying about Badlapur:

Our verdict

Badlapur certainly promises to be an unconventional film as far as Bollywood stories go. The terrific opening sets it up for a taut thriller. But the pace becomes sluggish in parts and the early tension is lost.  Still, watch it if you like gritty, dark drama and for Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s performance.
