The sports film is not a common genre in Indian cinema, but in recent times, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Mary Kom have made a big impact. Now, along comes Saala Khadoos, set in the dramatic world of boxing. Starring R Madhavan and newcomer Ritika Singh, the movie directed by Sudha Kongara, the film has received praise from critics for the fiery performances. The downside, many felt, was the romantic track and the length of the film.

Our take: If you like sporting films, then this one’s for you. You may, however, end up wishing it had been a lot slicker.
