If last week’s release, Bombay Velvet, was slammed, almost without exception, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which hit the screens this week, has got all-round applause. The movie picks up where Tanu Weds Manu left off and explores a romance gone wrong as the boredom of marriage sets in. Kangana Ranaut’s performance in a double role has won her praise and one critic said the film vindicates the general belief that ‘Kangana is in a zone where she can do no wrong’.

Aanand L Rai’s capacity for telling compelling stories set in small town India has also been commended, as has been Deepak Dobriyal, who is the madcap buddy of protagonist, Manu, played effortlessly by Madhavan. Here’s a round-up of the reviews:

Our take

Enjoyed Tanu Weds Manu? Then the sequel is certain to please you with its splendid performances and the setting of small town India. The film is predictable, in parts, but is still a great watch.
