Indian actor and model Rohit Khandelwal becomes the first Indian to become Mr. World.

The 26 year old from Hydrabad  beat 45 other finalists to win $50,000 at the MR. World 2016 that was held in Southport, U.K.

Khandelwal and the other contestants were put through 5 different challenges over a period of 12 days, before judges decided on who was the most desirable man. These challenges that tested out the contestants included fashion and style, extreme challenge, multi-media, sports and talent.

It has not been easy for Khandelwal to get where he is. Before becoming a model, he worked as a flight attendant for Spice Jet and also as a tech support at Dell. He moved to Mumbai 2 years ago to pursue a modeling career against his father’s wishes of him joining the family business.

He was not always in shape. He had to work hard to transform his body. He also did not initially speak Hindi and had to take classes to perfect his diction and accent.

Khandelwal previously won Mr. India in 2015 and has starred in TV ads and series, including a jewelry ad with Kareena Kapoor, “Pyar Tune Kya Kiya,” “MTV Big F,” and “Yeh Hai Aashiqui.”

I feel so privileged and humbled to be Mr World 2016. It has been an amazing journey to this point and I cannot wait to see what happens next”, he said in a statement.
