Social media went into a bit of an overdrive when Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor named their baby boy ‘Taimur’. When right wing activists claimed this horrible move of the celebrity couple to name their newborn ‘Taimur’ as Islamophobia, fans were wondering what the whole fuzz was about. Some of the RSS folks lashed out as the baby’s name was similar to the Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur.

Saif has now decided to break the silence and reveal the truth behind naming their son Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi. Talking to The Indian Express, he said “I’m aware of the heritage of the Turkish ruler and my son was not named after him. He was Timur, my son is Taimur. Perhaps the root is similar but it’s not the same name. Taimur is an ancient Persian name meaning iron. Both my wife and I liked its sound and the meaning. In fact, of all the names I ran by Kareena, she liked this one the best because it’s beautiful and strong.”

Saif also hopes that their son will be a liberal, balanced, open-minded guy who would counter Islamophobia.
