Update: Samsung has launched its latest high-end phones Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in India. The Galaxy S6 smartphone with the 32 GB internal memory costs Rs 49,900, while its 64 GB and 128 GB alternatives cost Rs. 55,900 and Rs. 61,900 respectively.

As you may have guessed, the S6 Edge model costs more than the regular S6 model. The 32 GB version of S6 Edge costs Rs. 58,900, while 64 GB version comes for Rs. 64,900 and 128 GB for Rs. 70,900. The devices will be available from April 10. Read about the features and specifications of these smartphones below:

Crafted using premium metal and glass, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge come packed with powerful features, a slick metal body and a `material design’ interface powered by Android Lollypop 5.0 OS.

However, there is a significant shift away from previous devices in terms of storage and battery. In the latest flagship phones, there is no external storage support, and the battery is non-removable. With 32GB/64GB/128GB storage options, you may not need an external memory, though. As for battery, the devices support wireless charging.

Apart from this, Samsung has launched an exclusive Mobile Payment feature for these devices. Find out more about Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge below.

Display

Both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge come with 5.1” Quad HD (2560×1440) Super AMOLED display. The body is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 4, said to be the toughest ever glass. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 edge comes with the world’s first curved display on both sides, called Dual Edge. For many reasons, these phones seem to be in direct competition with the iPhone 6. The Galaxy S6 devices are slimmer than the iPhone 6 (4.7-inch display), but are heavier. To achieve slimness, Samsung seems to have followed iPhone design elements by getting rid of the external microSD card and removable battery.

Specifications

Both smartphones are packed with Octacore processors, 3GB DDR-4 RAM and an internal memory option of 32/64/128GB. On the battery front, while the Galaxy S6 has a 2,550 mAh battery, the Galaxy S6 Edge comes with a 2,600 mAh battery. In comparison, iPhone 6 has a 1810 mAH battery. Apart from this, these Samsung devices come equipped with Samsung’s core features such as Ultra Power Saving Mode, S Health 4.0, Sound Alive+, S Finder and S Voice.

Camera

These Galaxy phones are equipped with 16MP rear and 5MP front cameras. Further, you can “quick launch” the cameras by simply double clicking the home key button. In comparison, iPhone 6 has an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.2MP front camera.

Cord-free Charging

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are designed to work with any wireless pad available in the market that supports WPC and PMA standards. According to Samsung, these phones charge 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5, providing about 4 hours of usage after only 10 minutes of charging. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6 does not support wireless charging.

Mobile Payment

The leading phone maker has come with Samsung Pay, a new mobile payment service that will come built-in with the latest devices. To be launched in the United States in the second half of the year, this service is protected by Samsung KNOX, fingerprint scanning and advanced tokenization. The Samsung Pay works with both Near Field Communication (NFC) and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology. Here again, Samsung has an edge over Apple Pay, which works only with NFC.

Both devices will be available globally starting April 10, in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only).
