Who would have ever thought that so many stories could be told in just 6 secs? Vine video sharing platform has been a place where creativity embraces limitation of time, it has been a place where millions of people have come to laugh at loops, it has been a birthplace for so many Internet personalities.Sadly, Twitter has announced that it will be shutting down the video sharing service, 4 years after it was launched.

There are reports that Twitter has downsized it’s workforce by 9% following the slow growth of the social network.

Although the service will be shut down in the coming months, Twitter has promised not to remove any existing vines.

“We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way. You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made”, the company wrote in a blog post.

People on twitter are putting out a memorial service, sharing their favourite Vines, reminiscing on the found memories that the micro video sharing platform had created.

Twitter bought over Vine, which was launched in late 2012 for a reported $30m and made the service live in January 2013. Within a couple of months, Vine became the most used video sharing application in the market.

The downfall of Vine happened when it’s co-founders gradually quit and Twitter was not nearly investing enough on the property. The service also took a major hit in 2013, when Instagram introduced similar video service. Twitter had earlier tried to sell of the whole property, but there were no buyers willing to meet the company’s asking price.

Vine’s co-founder Rus Yusupov just had one thing to say about the death of Vine. In a short Tweet, he wrote “Don’t sell your company!”
