Siachen Avalanche: Soldier miraculously survives six days under 25 ft snow

After six days long rescue mission in search for Indian army soldiers who were hit by an avalanche in Siachen last week, a soldier was found alive under 25 feet of snow. Lance Naik Hanumanthappa of Madras regiment was the one miraculously rescued after six days.

According to reports, Hanumanthappa hails from Dharwad district in Karnataka. He along with nine others of Madras regiment had gone missing last week after an avalanche hit their outpost at the altitude of 19,500 feet in Siachen. The outpost had shared close proximity with Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.

Hanumanthappa’s condition is said to be critical as his pulse remains to be low. As per reports, defense authorities have prioritised his safe carriage to New Delhi for better treatment.

Rescue operations led by army have dug out bodies of five soldiers disregarding the severe weather conditions prevailing in the glacier region. Search mission is carried out with the help of advanced machines and by digging down 30 feet of snow.
