Sivakasi, Kannur linked to Trivandrum’s fake currency racket

The origin of a fake currency racket that was recently busted in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala was traced to Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. During the course of the investigation, the police learnt that the notes were printed in Sivakasi and later sold across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Reportedly, currency worth Rs 1 lakh was sold at Rs 30,000. According to the police, the magnitude of the racket might be massive.  Investigations have also led the police to a hub in Kannur where fake currency was printed.

The racket was busted after the police apprehended Pradeep who was caught paying off his mortgaged car using fake notes.  Pradeep and his gang manhandled the lender when he complained. Following the incident, they fled the place. Pradeep and the others were caught after the police launched a manhunt. The accused then revealed information regarding the printing unit in Sivakasi.
