A Malayalam news channel on Sunday released the copy of a letter in which the prime accused in the solar scam Saritha Nair said that the chief minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy sexually exploited her at his official residence in Thiruvananthapuram.

“I wrote the letter while I was in police custody. I will not discuss the contents but I will confirm that whatever I have written in the letter is true,” said Saritha who appeared on the channel to clarify the 24-page letter.

However, Chandy has refuted the claims as ‘suspected conspiracy’.

The veracity of the contents of the letter is yet to be confirmed and her claims merely stand as allegations. Saritha had earlier told that Chandy is a ‘father-like-person’ to her.

“Since this allegation was first levelled against me, the state has witnessed several elections. Now the assembly polls around and it has surfaced again,” Chandy added.

The said letter was reportedly written at Perumbavoor on 19 July in 2013. “I was too ashamed to divulge the details and that was why I did not handover the letter to solar commission,” Saritha said.

Another news channel too reported ‘evidence’ in the form of Saritha’s telephone call records to Chandy’s official number. According to the ‘report’, Chandy’s official phone attended a 50-second long call from Saritha’s phone number on 1 March, 2015.

Saritha and her ‘business’ partner Biju Radhakrishnan were arrested on cheating charges in 2013. The duo allegedly took cash from thousands of people by promising to install solar panels or offering them shares in large solar farms.

Chandy and other ministers in the UDF government have been accused of receiving huge kickbacks and sexual favours for supporting the scam.
