As the world climbs up the ladder of digital revolution, it is becoming that much more vulnerable to cyber attacks. Bruce Schneier, a security expert, says that companies who are responsible for the maintenance and functioning the world wide web are now battling against coordinated attacks on a daily basis.

He suspects that these coordinated attacks are most likely carried out by a cyber warfare group originating from China.

It is suspected that China is testing out methods to take the entire internet down, that can cause global blackout of all websites.

These attacks are coming in the form DDoS attacks, where the servers are flooded with data, overloading them. This age old form of attack is quite commonly used, with the more recent example being  Mumbai being hit by a massive DDos attack, which brought internet speed to a crawl.

However, what is a cause to worry, is these attacks are reportedly becoming more coordinated and systematic.

“Doesn’t seem like something an activist, criminal, or researcher would do,” Schneier said. Schneier believes that the magnitude at which these attacks are being carried out suggests involvement of a state and hints that it is China.

Schneier’s report seems to be in line Domain registrar Verisign’s report, which says that “DDoS attacks are continuing to become more frequent, persistent, and complex.
