‘Scientists’ at Gujarat’s Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) claim to have discovered gold in cow urine!

In addition to the sweeping statement, they’ve also clarified that the yellow metal is found only in Gir cows that are native to Gujarat.

Apparently, a team of researchers from the biotechnology department in JAU have been studying the matter for the last four years to confirm their finding. The team of scientists is led by Dr B. A. Golakia, the head of JAU’s biotechnology department. Around 400 Gir cows were studied as a part of the research.

“We started the research almost four years back and tested cows from different age groups including pregnant cows, calfs, aged cows and the milking ones. The amount of gold presence varied in all of them—from 3 milligram to 10 milligram per one litre of urine to be exact,” ScoopWhoop quoted Dr Golakia.

He said that they took some time to confirm their finding as they wanted to observe how often the presence of gold was detected in cow urine. The team also conducted tests on the urine of other animals like goat, camel, sheep and buffaloes, but traces of gold were only found in the Gir cow urine.

But Golakia doesn’t rule out the possibility of finding the precious metal in the remaining breed of cows. “There is a possibility of presence of gold in other breeds of cows as well but then tests have to be conducted at local level in different states,” he said.

According to the scientist, gold worth Rs 30 could be extracted from one litre of urine. As the procedure to extract gold from one litre of urine is around Rs 10, net worth of the gold would only be Rs 20, he added.

But what’s intriguing about this ‘finding’ is that the so-called ‘researchers’ couldn’t figure out why the precious metal is present in the Gir cow urine.
