Sunny Leone-Prasoon Joshi’s war of words, and why she is the Controversy Queen of Bollywood

Adult movie star Sunny Leone’s controversies seem to be never-ending and her past seems to continue to haunt her in spite of her rising status in Bollywood. When the actress was in the news recently for the insensitive interview with Bhupendra Chaubey, she garnered a lot of support from her Bollywood colleagues including Aamir Khan (who was mentioned in the interview) and ruled social media. But there are still people in Bollywood who do not seem to like where she comes from and writer-lyricist Prasoon Joshi is one of them.

During a special event organized to celebrate 10 years of Rang De Basanti recently, Prasoon Joshi said that he did not like Sunny’s past profession and had no respect for the same. He also suggested that her presence in Bollywood was turning into a disguised inspiration for the youth to follow her footsteps.

Sunny Leone refused to react to all the repeated criticism coming her way and said in an interview, “I don’t know who Prasoon Joshi is. I will Google him and then I will comment.”

Here’s a look at some of the other controversies which surround Sunny Leone.

1. Sunny was already embroiled in controversies when during one of her initial movies Ragini MMS 2, her lesbian kissing scene with actress Sandhya Mridul created a stir. The steamy scenes grabbed a lot of headlines and was protested by Bajrang Dal members.

2. Comedian Kapil Sharma had confessed in his initial interviews that he would not like to host Sunny Leone on his comedy show as it was meant for family audiences. The actress had been missing from the show during the promotions of Jackpot. But Kapil seems to have moved on from his meaningless apprehensions and Sunny has since then promoted all her movies on the show.

3. Sunny Leone also had a Twitter war with Kamal R Khan (KRK), which landed both of them in a legal soup. Sunny apparently wrote a controversial tweet about rape, to which KRK replied, “Ye lo…Sunny Leone says Rape is not a Crime, it’s just a surprise sex.” sic. Sunny later denied posting any such thing and clarified that her twitter handle had been hacked for five minutes.

4. Sunny Leone’s brand endorsement for a condom brand too landed her in trouble, when senior CPI leader Atul Kumar Anjan said that Sunny Leone’s ads were vulgar and that they were the reason for the increasing number of rape cases in India.

5. The actress faced a lot of backlash when she spoke in support of the adult movie industry and said – Porn star doesn’t mean prostitute. She defended her past profession and said – “I think India does not have an adult entertainment industry that’s why people have no idea what it is.” She faced a lot of flak for these comments.
