Sweden and Denmark relive an age-old rivalry
Sweden and Denmark are two Scandinavian countries who, years ago, waged war against each other and later went on to be allies, eventually getting along with each other. But in what may have been a first for even Twitter, these Scandinavian countries decided to relive their age-old rivalry decided to get into a banter and taunt each other using their official Twitter accounts.
Sweden instigated the fight when it sent a tweet from their official handle @swedense, a handle which is managed by the Communication Unit and a moose (according to the bio), expressing the general dislike Swedes have for wall-to-wall carpeting. This is when Denmark decided to take a dig at Sweden, only to be countered by Sweden’s snippy tweets, eventually engaging in a long witty conversation with each other which left Twitterati either laughing or perplexed at the absurdity of the conversation.
Next time you meet a Swede, suggest they install wall-to-wall carpeting at home and see what happens. pic.twitter.com/RjzM1blfrA

Just in case, you didn’t know, it was all pre-planned so that Netizens could have some fun. Ferencz Thuroczy, Social Media Manager of Sweden, wrote on LinkedIn,
Ferencz Thuroczy, Social Media Manager of Sweden, later on LinkedIn reassured people that the war people had just witnessed was friendly, and that they had informed Denmark about what they were going to do. “During the morning of the 7th of July I wanted to do something drastic with our Twitter feed. I decided to have it out with Denmark. Why? Because the Internet needs a sense of humor and a bit of fun, at our and Denmark’s expense. After firing off that first tweet, I got in touch with the Danes on a private channel and we agreed to storm ahead, without disclosing our battle plans. Getting connected is a must, to avoid causing a “diplomatic incident”. Boy, did we go at it, and boy, was it fun!” he said.
However, we have to admit that Sweden’s love for GIFs really did give them a competitive edge every now and then.
