A 19-year-old college student severed off her tongue as a sacrifice to the Hindu goddess Kali in a bid to appease the deity who according to her appeared to her in a dream and offered to grant all her wishes in exchange of her tongue.
Aarti Dubey, a student at TRS College in Madya Pradesh, made the bizarre offering to the goddess following the dream, according to the Daily Mail.

Aarti’s brother Sachin Dubey thought she was joking when she initially informed him of her plan.
“Aarti had confided in me about the dream and told me that she was going to offer her tongue to the deity,” Sachin was quoted by Daily Mail.
“But it never occurred to me that she was serious about it. I thought she was kidding,” he added.
However he expressed astonishment on his educated sister’s decision to slice her tongue for appeasing a deity.
“I have heard about incidents of illiterate and superstitious people offering their body parts to appease the gods,” he said. “I never thought that my own college-going sister could be so superstitious.”
Reportedly Aarti fell unconscious after slicing her tongue at a temple at Reva in Madhya Pradesh.

Besides this, her relatives and the priest of the temple allegedly refrained from providing her medical attention and continued to pray to the goddess for her well-being.
