Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) on Tuesday announced to increase the MLA constituency development fund to Rs 3 crores from Rs 1.5 crores.

MLAs from all the parties in Telangana had requested the chief minister to hike the constituency development fund to Rs 5 crores on the lines of funds granted to Members of Parliament (MPs). MPs are given Rs 5 crores per annum under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) for essential development works.

The chief minister stated that the MLAs would be given full freedom over the manner in which the amount is spent. KCR also instructed the officials of all the departments to cooperate with the MLAs in order to streamline the expenditure of the constituency development fund.

KCR requested the MLAs to chalk out an implementation plan for their constituencies to take up works. He also added that the MLAs should concentrate on the “Mission Kakatiya” scheme to rejuvenate irrigation tanks in the state.
