The Poland team participating in the Kabaddi World Cup has a Malayali coach

Get ready for some high octane Kabaddi action as the 8th edition of the Kabaddi World Cup to kick off in Ahmadabad, Gujarat starting October 7.

Kabaddi has been steadily gaining popularity following the Pro Kabaddi League, which has become a rage in India and now it looks like the sport is gaining International traction. 12 countries including India, United States of America, Canada, England, Australia, Iran, Poland, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Korea, Kenya and Japan will be participating in the Kabaddi World Cup 2016 which is being organised by the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF).

Speaking of Kabaddi gaining International popularity, The Kerala State Sports Council’s K Ganesh was picked by the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF), the governing body of the sport, to train the Polish team for the World Cup. Poland and Kenya will be participating in the tournament for the first time ever.

“The IKF is taking initiative to popularise the kabaddi across the world and include the sport in the 2020 Olympics. My appointment as the head coach of Poland is part of the effort,” said Ganesh.

Ganesh says that the sport is getting popular in Poland, also pointing out that the country’s Michal Spiczko played for Bengaluru Bulls in the last season’s Pro Kabaddi.
