The royals get ‘simpsonised’ and so does social justice! These cartoons by Alexsandro Palombo will open your eyes
The whole world has been going gaga over the birth of royal princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Amidst the chaos, one cartoonist decides to celebrate the event in his own unique style, Simpsonising!
Yes, this is exactly what he is calling his cartoons inspired by the popular American sitcom, The Simpsons. To give you a little more, Alexsandro simpsonises people and events in uncommon ways to get the viewers looking at the world as never before. What better way to tell a story than through the Simpsons?
Scroll down to see some of his most imposing cartoons that have attracted applause for either their aesthetics or an important message. Well in some cases, both.
Let’s begin with the Royals, shall we?
Royalty
Alexsandro has simpsonised a similar moment from both generations. Princess Diana and Prince Charles with new born William, while the next picture shows their son at the same hospital door seen with wife Kate holding their second born. Bringing these two cartoons together takes us back in years to the Prince’s birth.
Alexsandro has been sketching the lovely Duchess of Cambridge for a while now. This is one of his older cartoons of Kate in her various Stylish avatars over the years as royalty. Kate sure makes a pretty picture!
Well she isn’t royalty in the real sense. But she isn’t far behind either. Here is an interesting cartoon of Hollywood royalty Kim Kardashian by the cartoonist. Her pose for the Paper magazine has been immortalized with this quirky piece. He even claims to have given better proportions to her rear in the cartoon. Well that’s for you to decide! If you like it be sure to check out other cartoons of the reality tv star and her hubby by the cartoonist.
Next too is royalty of a sort. A beautiful lawyer and a majorly drooled over Hollowood star coming together has caught the cartoonist’s eye. This sketch of Amal Alamuddin and the dashing George Clooney has caught the attention of the popular industry.
Now let’s move on to more serious messages that Alexsandro mainly uses his talent for. The artist through these cartoons evokes the good man in you. His strong messages are depicted forcefully in this selection.
Racism
Alexsandro has taken a strong viewpoint against the Walter Scott shooting incident, in which an Afro-American boy was unjustly shot by a white police officer in April this year. This strip shows you his vehement response to the tragedy. Tagged ‘We are all Humans’ in these sketches one can see a very interesting concept of want of equality in one of the biggest democracies. What more? The Simpsons don darker skin to drive the point home.
Another of his major concern is injustice of any kind against women. These cartoons below have the capacity to wake you up from your deepest Disney fantasies to the real world of horror. By making these popularly loved characters stand for today’s causes, Alexsandro in vigourous style brings them from reel time to real time.
Acid attack and domestic violence
In this sketch a female Disney character is calling attention to how she looked before the acid attack. The second sketch is of Marge showing you what has been done to her by Homer! Our happy-go-lucky imaginations of these cartoons have been reversed to evoke a new emotion altogether in the ‘StoptAcidAttack’ and ‘Coward’ series. Well it’s working!
The most moving of his works are holocaust cartoons on the Nazi regime. These cartoons depict scenes from the tragic period and showcase the cruelty of the concentration camps at Auschwitz. Brace yourselves for this emotive collection.
Auschwitz
Here the Simpsons are the victims of the violence. They have been impressively drawn in the helpless positions of the unfortunate. The behind-the-jail scenes haunt a viewer who is highly familiar with the otherwise lighthearted Springfield.
Here come the Anne Frank collection
