‘Once a soldier, is always a soldier’. It is the same in the case of Shripatji, who have found consolation in the streets of Jhansi.

Shripatji was once the part of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army where he stood shoulder to shoulder of his compatriots for serving the great nation.

Ironically, even today this nonagenarian fights the odds of life to earn bread for himself and his wife. And it is rather sad to learn that the old man is to earn bread by begging in the streets of Jhansi.

Shripatji joined the army after getting influenced Netaji’s public speeches. And he served the nation by helping to liberate it from the clutches of the imperialist overpowering. But then life took a turn for worse and it landed him in the streets.

The veteran had inherited a decent seven acres of land in Jhansi and even was the owner of a licensed gun. However, his family’s riches was pillaged by the vices of his own son – Tulasiya. He was forced to run from pillar to post to save his family assets but only to prove in vain. Tualasiya’s addiction to gambling shredded the family.

Nevertheless, today Shripat has a contended heart for he considers himself to be fortunate for having served the country alongside Bose’s men.

Presently, he and his wife lives in Hansari in Jhansi.

So much for the liberty we enjoy because of these freedom fighters!
