Pune-based hearing care solutions company Quadio Devices has launched a new app that can convert smartphones into a hearing aid for those who suffer from moderate to acute hearing loss.

The app named Q+ uses special algorithms to enable high-quality sound enhancement and environmental noise cancellation. Much like the conventional hearing aid, the user will need to use a earphone to listen.

Q+ allows users to perform a hearing test and adjust the sound accordingly. It also allows users to customize the settings and fine-tune the sounds to suit different environments. The company claims that the hearing test in the app is calibrated for accuracy as per ANSI standards of audiometry.

“Hearing loss is the second largest disability in the country that affects more than 120 million lives with majority sufferers over the age of 60. There are less than 2,000 practicing audiologists in India and therefore most people have never actually received treatment until their hearing has degraded severely with age,” said Neeraj Dotel, CEO of Quadio Devices.

“We set out to create a hearing solution that empowered people to hear what they wanted, how they wanted and wherever they wanted. The flexibility of controls offered by a smartphone app is much more than that offered by conventional hearing aids,” said  Anurag Sharma, co-founder of Quadio Devices.

The app is available on both Android and iOS. As for the compatibility, the app can be used on any iPhone from 4s to 6s plus and android devices running on Version 5 or higher.
