Famously dubbed as Delhi’s “plastic king” Bhanwarlal Raghunath Doshi relinquished his 600-cr business empire to become a Jain monk on Sunday. But what’s more astounding was the extravagant ceremony in which he announced his departure from all worldly pleasures.

Let’s have a look at his last splurge that cost him much more than Rs 100 crore:

1. The three-day extravagant diksha (consecration) ceremony was attended by 1.5 lakh spectators apart from 1000 sadhus and sadhvis.

2. The venue, expanding over an area of 10 lakh sq ft at the Ahmedabad Education Ground, was designed to resemble a ship at an outlay of Rs 100 crore. It is called Samyam Jahaj  (ship of restraint). 3,000 labourers were roped in and 20,000 bamboo sticks were used in the construction of the stage.

3. Around Rs 8 crore was spent on various other arrangements which were taken care of by 20 agencies.

4. As many as 1500 waiters were on duty.

5. 500 hotel rooms were booked for the 7000 guests who came in from out of the city and the country.

6. 200 security personnel were on guard.

7. The day before the concluding day, a 7km procession, Varsi Daan, was taken out with 12 chariouts, 9 elephants and as many camel carts. 1000 Jain monks took part in it.

8. Among the many dignitaries who were present was Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.

So, clearly, this monk has renounced more than just his Ferrari!
