It doesn’t have to be a big, dramatic gesture. The smallest step can go a long way in preserving natural resources, curbing environmental damage, bringing down pollution and making the world a better place. Do one or more of these things to celebrate World Earth Day and do your bit:

1. Clean up your commute

How about leaving your single-occupant car behind and cycling, taking the bus or metro to work?

2. Plug those leaks

More water than you can imagine is wasted thanks to leaking taps in the home. So, make an effort to call in the plumber today.

3. Take a bucket bath

You know that showers use up more water than bucket baths. Do it the good old Indian way.

4. Plant a tree

There’s no better way to save the environment than by planting more trees. So buy a sapling and give it a home today.

Save electricity. Switch off lights you don’t need and plug points you aren’t using.

8. Eat local

Don’t buy that imported apple today. Eat a local, seasonal mango instead. By making the choice to eat local and seasonal you can make huge reductions in the carbon footprint.

9. Don’t eat packaged, processed foods

The food processing industry consumes a vast amount of natural resources and also pollutes the environment. For instance, swap your daily fizzy drink for a tender coconut. It’s far better for you as well.

10. Spend some time outdoors

Take a walk in a nearby park or around one of our diminishing lakes. At least land up on your terrace and count the stars. Feel the beauty of nature.

Do your bit to save the world. It’s the only one we have.
