Thenmerku Paruvakkaatru

An accountant by profession, Vijay Sethupathy found the career unfulfilling and was drawn to theatre and films. He became an accountant for a theatre group and got a foot in the door. He appeared in several short films, working mostly with Karthik Subburaj, and then bagged supporting roles in Pudhuppettai and Vennila Kabadikkuzhu.

Thenmerku Paruvakkaatru, directed by Seenu Ramasamy was the break he was waiting for. He was cast in the lead role and the film went on to win various National Awards and was also best Tamil feature film of 2011.

Pizza

The following year was a big one for Vijay Sethupathy and he delivered back-to-back hit. The one that garnered most acclaim was Pizza, a thriller directed by Karthik Subburaj. Vijay Sethupathy played the role of a pizza delivery boy to perfection and announced his arrival as an actor to reckon with in Kollywood.

Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom

This delightful comedy saw Vijay Sethupathy play a young man who has short-term memory loss on the eve of his wedding. The film saw his popularity soar and was also a harbinger of charming, small-budget films in Kollywood.

Soodhu Kavvum

This was another comedy with a dark twist. The fabulous script was matched by a superlative performance by Vijay Sethupathy as a kidnapper with a heart of gold and a girlfriend who is a delusion.

Idharku Thaane Aasaipattai Balakumara

This film was another hit and Vijay Sethupathy’s fan base grew. They loved his understated comic style and the film was packed with laughter. The line ‘Kumuda happy Annachi’ which Sethupathy delivers became common parlance.

Pannaiyarum Padminiyum

With this film Vijay Sethupathy displayed his willingness to break out of the typical ‘hero’ mould. He played the driver of a Premier vehicle which his owner, the Pannayar, loves like a child. It was a touching film with splendid performances.

After the critically acclaimed Orange Mittai Sethupathy worked with Vignesh Shivan on Naanum Rowdy Thaan. He played a guy who takes to crime to win over the woman he loves and this is most people’s favourite Vijay Sethupathy film.
