Have you ever stumbled across an event called Ciclovia?

The Raahgiri Day is inspired by this event that was started in Colombia in the year 1976; other countries gradually picked up on the trend as it was a great way to promote activity in the lives of their citizens. Ciclovia basically refers to closing down certain streets for automobiles, making them an exclusive activity area for cyclists and pedestrians for a set number of hours. The event was hosted every Sunday in Colombia and every time it saw an increasing number of participation.

After a lot of campaigning across the country, the Raahgiri Day finally reached the capital city with as a whiff of fresh air. It introduced, rather nudged the residents to move out of their houses on Sundays to indulge in activities like walking, cycling, socializing and much more.  The idea remains the same as that of the original event – banning all automobiles for a couple of hours to offer the citizens a vast space for various activities.

A lively change from cramped parks, people on foot and bicycles evading traffic, and the shortage of any genuine open space in the capital, Raahgiri is bringing the concept of outdoor activities back.
