A restaurant in Kochi called Pappada Vada has found a unique way to help the poor. The food joint installed a public fridge meant for people to leave food for the less fortunate. The fridge called ‘Nanma Maram’ is located at Kaloor Kathrikadavu road in Kochi. It will remain active 24/7 and accessible to anybody who wishes to take or leave food. The restaurant itself will stock the fridge with 50 packets of food everyday.

The restaurant has also requested local residents to contribute excess food to the fridge. However, the food has to be fresh and packed with the date of preparation mentioned on it. The key purpose of this initiative from Pappada Vada is to reduce the unnecessary wastage of food thereby helping those in need.

It is a known fact that many restaurants send a lot of left over food to the dumpster. As unfortunate as it might seem, perfectly good food goes to waste everyday, while it can be used to feed hungry stomachs instead.
Perhaps, ‘Nanma Maram’ will inspire others to take up similar initiatives to help the ones in need.
