TRAI launches test app to monitor data speeds provided by telecom operaters

Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) launched a new app called MySpeed, which will let you test out your internet speed.

How is this different from the Ookla’s popular Speedtest.net app? MySpeed  will let you share results directly to TRAI and will do so without sharing your personal user information. Meaning, you can send the report anonymously.

It is no secret that mobile users don’t always get the speed or a reliable network that they paid for. This app is a means for TRAI to keep track of speeds that are being provided by telecom operators in specific areas.

The app comes after TRAI Chairman RS Sharma recently said that the regulatory plans to issue a consultation paper to fix the quality of service bench mark for wireless data.

A few users have reported  that the app is riddled with bugs and not very accurate. These issues should get a fix in the future, however, Ookla remains the more accurate choice for now.

You can download the MySpeed app for Android from Google Play store. iOS users will have to wait a little longer before TRAI launches the app on Apps store.
