24-year-old Shreya Sundar Iyer, who is the first woman rider to be a part of any racing team in India, will compete for TVS Racing at the Indian National Rally championship this year.

Shreya, whose ultimate dream is a career in motor racing, began riding motorbikes at the age of 17. She became the first Indian woman rider to successfully complete a ride across the sand dunes of Dubai.

She has biked extensively across India including the isolated Suru valley in the Himalayas and also completed a demanding southern India biking expedition of 2,000 kilometres in just 6 days.

According to the Hindu Business Line, head of Team TVS Racing Arvind Pangaonkar said, “We believe that her participation will encourage women to consider racing as a career. TVS Racing is strongly committed to promote 2-wheeler racing in India and generate interest and improve support for the sport in India. We make continuous efforts to take the sport to as many section of the society as possible and create the ultimate machine and promote the riders for these machines.”

According to the report, Shreya said, “I am proud to be a part of the TVS Racing team. TVS Racing is by far the best Indian racing team with the best motorbikes and trainers. This association will help me work with the best in class machines, racers and technology. I also hope to encourage young bikers, especially women to follow their passion for racing and live their dreams.”

TVS Racing was formed 33 years before, and has since actively participated in on- and off-road racing events including Super-cross and Motocross, Dirt Tracks, Rally, etc.

In 2015, TVS Racing became the first Indian factory team to participate in the Dakar rally—the longest and most challenging rally in the world.
