An UP woman by the name of Rekha Lodhi from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district burnt her own face after husband repeatedly taunted her for being too pretty.
33-year-old Rekha married Nirmal Kumar six years ago. She was known to be gorgeous and outspoken woman who had the ability build a instant rapport with anyone.
Two years into the marriage, things turned sour as her husband began taunting her for being too good looking. He often got angry on her for allegedly attracting unwanted attention from friends, relatives and neighbors.
Frustrated by her Husband’s taunts and to dodge attention, Rekha took the extreme decision of burning her face.
According to surgeon Dr Saurabh Agrawal, she had sustained 20 to 25% burns. Although she is out of danger, she will disfigured for life.
“I could handle the slights till they came from my husband but it became too much when my father-in-law joined in. It became impossible for me to fight both my husband and him,” Rekha was quoted as saying in the report.
Rekha has refused press any charges on her husband. However, her mother wants him to be brought to justice for inflicting mental torture to her daughter.
