Vetrimaran’s Visaranai opens amidst high praise from Rajini, Kamal

Award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaran sees his latest film, Visaranai, hit the screens today. The director, a Balu Mahendra protégé, has made a big impact with his previous films, Polladhavan and Aadukalam, both starring Dhanush and the latter going on to win the National Award for Best Film.

Known for his gritty, realistic films, Vetrimaran has based Visaranai on a real life story he stumbled upon. It is about an ordinary man’s ordeals as he becomes a victim of an ubridled abuse of power.

Kollywood biggies who’ve seen the film have been lavish in their praise and Dhanush, whose Wunderbar Films produced Visaranai has compiled their accolades in a Tweet.

Rajini has said, “I have never seen a Tamil film like Visaranai. It figures amidst world cinema now. Congratulations, Vetrimaran-Dhanush.”

Kamal’s reaction to the film was, “I saw Visaranai and marvelled at it. Thank you also to Balu Mahendra who influenced Vetrimaran about great cinema.”

Maniratnam said, “Visaranai is the film that affected me the most in recent times. Vetrimaran is the complete director.”

Priyadarshan praised the film: “Visaranai is among the best films I’ve seen in the last 10 years. Vetrimaran has made a film whose impact stays with you even two days after watching it.”
