Video of DMK leader MK Stalin slapping a passenger in Chennai metro goes viral

Politicians getting caught on tape in the middle of unceremonious acts is nothing new. The latest to join that infamous list is MK Stalin, son of M Karunanidhi and DMK Treasurer, who slapped one of his own party workers in the Chennai Metro.

But the slap was hardly the worst part of this story. The explanations, accusations and reactions that followed on social media were nothing short of comical.

Stalin’s office claimed that he was only asking the man to move away from the female passengers, and it was an ‘inadvertent touch’ rather than a slap.

“It is not a slap. It’s just a flick on the cheek. Only a portion of the video is being circulated and has gone viral. It is a conspiracy to spoil the image of Stalin. He never reacts like that unless he is pushed,” Congress spokesperson Ms Khushbu told NDTV, defending her former DMK colleague.

But Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa was quick to turn the incident into a political debate.

“Stalin’s behavior doesn’t augur well as an MLA. All are equal in public places. Nobody is inferior. Stalin should maintain dignity,” she said.

Meanwhile, folks on Twitter couldn’t resist the chance to have a joyride of their own as the story unraveled.
