Ram Subramanian’s video that recently went viral is truly a subtle yet powerful message to the politicians and players who encourage communal tension between India and Pakistan.

The video is a part of the campaign #ProfileForPeace and features a 19-year-old girl called Gurmehar Kaur—the daughter of Captain Mandeep Singh who sacrificed his life during the Kargil War.

Kaur lost her father to the war when she was 2 years old and, as a result, developed abhorrence towards Muslims as she grew older. She assumed that all Muslims are Pakistanis until her mother made her understand that the reason for her father’s death was war and not Pakistanis.

In the video, Kaur questions the abilities of both the governments and appeals to the parties involved to solve the problem instead of pretending. Citing that a majority of people from both nations want peace and not war, Kaur today stands to fight for peace between the two nations.

The video in a way voices the opinions of common individuals and of families of those who are fighting at the borders.

These words ring louder than ever before: We cannot dream of becoming a First World country with Third World leadership.
