Olympian Vijender Singh is all set to grab his maiden title in the professional circuit as he enters the rings for World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia belt. The match is scheduled to take place in June in front of his home crowd in Delhi.

While Vijender’s opponent is not yet confirmed, reports suggest that the middle weight Indian boxer would bout someone from China or Korea.

Since his professional debut in last October, the 30-year-old has won all the three professional matches which were knock-outs. His next fight is scheduled on March 12 in Liverpool and is currently in training in Manchester for the showdown.

“I am already excited. My first title fight, that too in front of my own people, in my own country. It cannot get better than this. I have no idea who my opponent is going to be but I am sure I will carry on the way I have so far,” reports quoted Vijender.

Venue for the Asia title bout could be the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium if it is approved by WBO officials on February 22.

The WBO delegation, comprising of the body’s first vice-president John Duggan, chairman officials Michael Pernick, and referee Mark Nelson would reach Delhi to inspect the venue.

Vijender’s UK promoters – Queensberry Promotions’ chief Francis Warren, Benjamin Murphy, the broadcasting head of Boxnation would also be joining the team from WBO.

The WBO officials, while in India, will also explore avenues for promoting professional boxing in India at the grass root level.
