Irrespective of what certain section of the media wants one to believe, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) affirms that actor Amitabh Bachchan did not take a single penny as appearance fees for singing the national anthem before the India-Pakistan T20 match on Saturday.

On the other hand, the actor shelled out cash from his pocket for appearing at the event.

After the match on Saturday, a report claimed that Bachchan had charged Rs 4 crores as fees to sing the national anthem and for his presence at the prematch event that felicitated former cricketers. The report, which was false, provoked ire of many Indians. Some even questioned his patriotism.

“I am eternally grateful to him. Can you imagine someone paying Rs 30 lakhs of his own pocket? He booked his own flight, bought his own tickets and even paid the hotel bills. I literally begged him to take some money but he said that I am doing it for love and there is no question of money being involved,” CAB president Sourav Ganguly was quoted by Anandbazar Patrika.

Amitabh Bachchan too rubbished the report which claimed that he received 4 crores for appearing at the event.
