In a unique way to create road safety awareness, the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) of Wayanad district in Kerala found the very God Of Death ‘Yama’ to be the traffic cop for a day.

On Wednesday, ‘Yama’, the feared Hindu God of Death, surprised the people of Wayanad by his sudden apparition on roadsides in Kalpetta with his infamed death noose to catch those riding without helmets or fastening safety belts.

‘Yama’ even welcomed these careless riders and drivers to his ‘Yamapuri’.

This novel idea of Yama’s dayout on road was conceived with a vision to create awareness about road safety precautions. With nearly 50,000 out of the five lakh accidents in India being recorded in Kerala only, it is among the leading accident-prone states.
