Royal Challengers Bangalore’s skipper Virat Kohli may not have given his fans a reason to really celebrate in this edition of IPL so far, but the star batsman has given the T20 tournament one of its most memorable moments.

Virat Kohli bowed to RCB’s batsman Sarfaraz Khan out of respect after the latter scored an unbeaten 45 of 21 balls against the Rajasthan Royals at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. Sarfaraz’s brilliant knock took the hosts to a  competitive score of 200 for seven in 20 overs.

In his knock, Sarfaraz took on the likes of Shane Watson, Pravin Tambe and Dhawal Kulkarni and hit a total of six fours and one six.

The match was, however, abandoned  as there no play was possible in the second half due to heavy rain.  Both teams got one point each.

Who is Sarfaraz Khan?

17-year-old Sarfaraz, who was recognized for his batting talent only in Mumbai, has now become IPL’s latest batting sensation. In the world of cricket, some are addressing him as a great talent, while there are a few who’ve compared him with legendary Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad and Sri Lankan great Aravinda de Silva.

Sarfaraz Khan caught the attention of the world when he broke God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar’s record in an inter-school match in 2009 during the Harris Sheild tournament. He scored a brilliant 439 of 421 balls.

Also an off-spin bowler, Sarfaraz was coached by his father Naushad Khan and was also a part of India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in Dubai last year. The youngster, who made his first class debut only in December 2014 for Mumbai,  was brought by RCB for Rs 50 lakhs.

Sarfaraz’ father told RCB, “He has got exposure (over the last year). The more he plays with big names such as Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, he will learn more. This is the age of learning and the more he learns, the more he will progress. This is a great opportunity.”

Would you believe it, Sarfaraz Khan was only 9 years old when IPL kickstarted in 2008 and today he is in the same dressing room as India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli. Isn’t he living a dream?
