Kempegowda International Airport has been named ‘Best Regional Airport’ by the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2015, the world’s largest passenger satisfaction survey and among the most prestigious.

Here’s what we love about this airport:

1. Great design

As airports go, the expansions at KIAB are sleek and dramatic. The design aims to provide a seamless curbside-to-aircraft for passengers. We love the breezy entrance with its many food and drink outlets and other facilities.

2. Pretty landscaping

No other Indian airport is set in such a vast expanse of flora. It’s a pleasure to drive through all that greenery and flowering plants. The landscape artists and gardeners sure do a great job.

3. Good food & drink

Whether you want a beer or a quick bite on the go, Bangalore Airport has options aplenty. We especially love Malgudi, near the departure gates, which serves mini idlis and sambar in a paper cup.

4. Plenty of shopping

In the domestic terminal you can buy everything from travel essentials to mithai and designer wear. The duty free prices at Bangalore, most people aren’t aware, are one of the best in the region, even if the selection could be better.

5. Pleasant waiting areas

There’s comfortable seating in most waiting areas and charming art work in the various public spaces.

6. Efficient immigration

Compared to, say, Chennai, you can breeze through immigration in Bangalore. Most officers are very people-friendly, too.

7. Clean loos

Smelly, badly maintained toilets are the bane of many of our smaller airports. Not so in Bangalore. Not bad for an airport that is set to handle 17 million passengers in 2015, right?
