‘Women’s Commission’ itself insensitive to women?
For the past few days Internet circles in India had been buzzing with the story of a young woman from Alwar in Rajasthan who brutally abused by her husband and his brothers following a dowry dispute.
Today, what it took internet by storm a selfie taken by the members of Rajasthan Commission for Women with the rape victim, Reportedly, the selfie image has been doing viral rounds in Whatsapp circles.
The chairperson Suman Sharma of the commission and member Dr Somya Gurjar took selfie with the victim during their visit to a police station where she was lodged for an interim basis.
However, after the selfie incident landed the commission in an eye of storm, the chairperson (who herself is there in the picture), has asked member – Somya Gurjar to send a written explanation for her ‘insensitive’ act.
This incident not only highlights people’s obnoxious obsession to selfie and but brings out the insensitivity regarding rape victims in our society.
