The first round of matches for the World Cup already promises to be a mouth-watering prospect. While new chapters will be written in traditional rivalries between India and Pakistan, and Australia and England, the tournament will also open up a chance to settle personal scores. Here are some on-field battles we will be looking forward to.

1. Dale Steyn vs Virat Kohli

This one’s going to be very, very interesting. Kohli had once mentioned in an interview that Dale Steyn is his favourite opponent with the ball. During India’s 2013 tour of South Africa, he spiced up their rivalry by saying that the Indian batsmen were not scared of facing the Proteas pacer. No matter whom you’re rooting for, their face-off promises genuine entertainment.

2. Mitchell Johnson vs Ian Bell

When Mitch routinely ran through the England top order during the 2013 Ashes, Bell was the only England batsman that displayed any real sign of a resistance. Their World Cup encounter could produce a Déjà vu.

The classy South African right-hander is unstoppable when he’s on song. Junaid Khan will be relishing the opportunity to lead the Pak attack in Umar Gul’s absence.
