Las Vegas has cause for concern. The so called biggest hotel in the world there will drop to number two once the Abraj Kudai, in Mecca finishes construction.

The hotel that is coming up near the biggest Muslim pilgrimage site is all set to redefine luxury.

Designed by the Dar Al-Handasah group, this staggering building is meant to be 5-star for the Saudi royals and 4-star for others, mostly pilgrims. A good part of the hotel meant for the Royals will be inaccessible to the others.

The gigantic hotel will have 10,000 rooms, 70 restaurants,  a conference center, a bus station, swimming pools, and a lavish ballroom.

To add to this the 10,000 rooms will be in 12 separate towers, each 44-storey high. Isn’t this what you would call “reaching for the skies”?

It is also said that the colossal complex will not hold any gambling units as it is situated near a pilgrimage center. Costing US$ 3.5 billion, Abraj Kudai will take over the position of the biggest hotel in the whole world.

The Manafia district in Makkah’s central zone already houses many luxurious hotels, including The Hilton and The Hyatt, with the former planning a new branch at the venue. But none of this seems to take away the attraction from the towering Abraj Kudai set to be finished in 2017.

All this for the sake of the increasing number of pilgrims to Mecca in Saudi Arabia every year! The royal family too has a royal treat in waiting, what with 5 whole floors being dedicated to their stay and comfort.

Though many have criticized commercializing Mecca in this manner, the Saudi Ministry of Finance, which is funding the project, is showing no signs of looking back.

With such extravagance in the making, Abraj Kudai is definitely going to be a city in itself.
